Gold Jewelry Information
In 1956 when Shavonne began its career as
a wholesale jewelry manufacturer, the industry basically
used 2 terms for jewelry finished in gold or silver. When
manufacturers created the models and molds, the 'hallmark
insignia' read either SEP or GEP. (Of
Real Interest: many people think the hallmark on jewelry
is stamped. Not so. It must be permanently created as part
of the model-then the mold and every casting will then bear
the correct insignia.) SEP indicated silver electroplate,
and GEP indicated gold electroplate. Whenever an abbreviation
was used it simply read EP and referred to electroplating
in general.
Rogers Silver Plate Company has been the
world's finest for well over 100 years. Many Years ago our
research indicated their base metal was more porosity free
than we had ever seen-thereby allowing for the maximum adhesion
when electroplated. More than 40 years ago, for our wholesale
jewelry business we eventually developed a base metal that
was also incredibly porosity free…and we then continued
to improve its effectiveness for our wholesale jewelry manufacturing
over the years.
In the last 2 decades in the wholesale jewelry
industry, there have been many names created that basically
mean exactly the same thing. GOLD: Technibond, Diamonique,
Overlay, Bonded, Sealed, Clad, Layered etc, etc., etc. They
all refer to gold electroplating since there is just one
method for permanently affixing a precious metal to a BASE
METAL in fashion jewelry manufacturing. Notice the 2 key
words in caps here…BASE METAL. As I said, we discovered
more than 40 years ago, the most porosity free base metal
for manufacturing wholesale jewelry is the key to top quality
and long wearability.
Always the most important segments to manufacturing
wholesale jewelry are based in knowledge, expertise, and
maintaining the highest level of quality possible. Therefore,
Shavonne's Gold E/P remains at the forefront of quality
and we adopted the terminology "FINISHED," since this covers
every single name previously listed above. So,
whenever you see the terminology as "finished," you now
know how and why it was created.
